TopoLogic Workshop Day3

The last day of Topologic workshop began with a lecture about Intelligent Architecture – and an Intro to Biomimetic Architecture. Afterwards Prof. Aref continued the individual reversion for each project, later students started to prepare the final presentation.
Final presentation of the workshop started with a discussion on the second round of experiments with rhino tools and strategies that students worked on the previous days.

From now on, the students will have 10 days to prepare their final projects. Results of their work will be presented during MAG LAB web, future exhibitions in Lebanon.

TopoLogic Workshop Day2

In the second day of Topologic Workshop Prof. Aref gave the students a lecture, introducing them the definition of complexity, morphology, Afterwards the main role was played by Digital Tool Class, where participants gained skills and knowledge about using Rhino, also they learned additional editing commands to use them to build experimental models… Reinforce concepts of model setup and drawing accurate 2-D geometry to build precision 3-D shapes.

TopoLogic Workshop Day1

April 5th, 2012

Topologic Workshop has begun with the speech of Prof. Aref Maksoud, welcoming the students and explaining to them theirs tasks for the upcoming intensive days.

Then he started with Presentation about “Digital architecture evolution –parametric Design” and a brief about projects of Mag Lab, that have been accomplished by the design of Rhino. Afterwards the participants learned about real architectural projects made by MAG Company, which is assumed to be a “godfather” of Mag Lab organization.

After two hours of setting the student’s minds to let go of all the architectural typical ways of thinking; Prof. Aref gave a brief lecture about the definition of Topologic and then he started Digital Tool Class, where participants obtained skills and knowledge about using Rhino and creating 3D models.

Intro

MAG LAB, Syria – Spain – Italy (Materials- Advanced Architecture – Generative Laboratory) as a part of Maksoud Architectural Group, authorized training center of McNeel in Syria and the Middle East through its affiliate offices, is pleased to announce TopoLogic Workshop  that will take place in Beirut – Lebanon on May 11th 2012.

TopLogic is a intensive 4 days full time Workshop focusing exclusively on introducing Digital Morphogenesis, evolving architecture through computation, Form finding and optimizing complex geometry with parametric design tools in conjunction with economic efficiency, structural performance, environmental impact, and programmatic progress.

This workshop will serve as an introduction to the syntax and tools of evolutionary computation as well as an exploration of its influence on parametric architectural design.

This workshop focuses on impacts of digital technologies on professional practice and services. It explores issues such as emerging forms of professional practice, status of professional knowledge and skills, use and value of digital information in design.

Introducing changing variables, either specified or random and through repetitive or iterative processing, design problems are created (scripted) explored and adjusted based on either internal or external logics or criteria.

Throughout the workshop, students will be given the opportunity to:

  1. Explore computational techniques in the context of architectural design
  2. To explore and experiment with scripting in 3d studio MAX and Rhino To investigate emergent properties and characteristics in computationally defined systems
  3. To explore the computational formations in the context of architectural design:  Fields and Spirals, Subdivisions and Differential systems, Fractals and Branching Systems,
  4. In this workshop the student will concentrate on design processes in order to explore architectonical potentials seen and done by digital tools. The student will finish the workshop knowing how to generate design processes through digital tools and how to apply this knowledge in order to create architectonical proposals and physical prototypes.

At the end of the workshop each participant will receive an official certificate of participation signed officially by the related workshop collaborators universities and associations.

The Workshop applications are online and close on 11th  May 2012.
